Children's Donation Quilt Challenge
It’s time to think about making a child’s donation quilt as part of our 2022 quilt show. This has been a long-standing part of our DOQ quilt show history. The quilts are displayed at the quilt show in a special area, and the show attendees get to vote on their favorite one. The “challenge” is that each quilt uses one particular fabric (shown here) that is available through the guild. The viewers will decide which quilt maker has used the fabric in the most creative and interesting way. The other fabrics in the quilt are at the discretion of the quilt maker, whether from stash, or purchased. Join the fun of the challenge, and see if you might win a ribbon, or even a monetary prize!
Here’s how to do it:
- Purchase a 1/2 yard piece of the challenge fabric for $5.00 at a guild meeting or at a meet-up arranged for those who aren’t at the in-person meeting.
- Make a child’s donation quilt using the challenge fabric any way you wish. Use the dimension guidelines below for desired sizes of the donation quilts.
- Do NOT add a hanging sleeve or a label with your name on it.
- Bring the quilt to the “quilt take-in” for the show next October. You do not need to pick it up after the show, since it will be given to a deserving child.
- Enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you have provided cheer and caring to a child in need, and maybe even won a prize for yourself!
